The initial destination for that evening had been nowhere, and it had not been chosen by any form of a mistake. Jake had been dying for a reason to get out and about, he really liked the idea of freely going around even though it were the middle of the day. And so he had came up with the idea of exploring the roads, getting to know his way around the place was certainly a good enough reason to go out. And that is why his destination had been nowhere, since he was supposed to just go out for a bit of exploring and then come back. Naturally though that just wasn’t enough for Jake, like always he wanted more, and so he had found small reasons to delay his return home until he could actually devise a reason to go further with the evening. Sure it would have been a lot easier to have simply done whatever he wanted, but Jake needed reasons if only to soothe his own mind, and it was always great finding a mental challenge, no matter how short it might turn out to be. And that is why, he eventually found himself parking in a spot in Downtown Forks, Jake deciding that he had a good enough reason to be there.
His reason? Well he had two really, one was deceptive and would have been told to anyone who inquired, the second was the real reason Jake was there, and the one only Ivie would have been so lucky to know. Jake’s first reason, the deception, was needing something from the store, a place he actually had no real intention of visiting. The second reason, Jake’s real point of being there that day, was to perform a test of sorts. One he was both excited, and very nervous to perform and see the results of. He might not have mourned the humans when they were serving to keep him alive, but Jake Kingston was no idiot, he knew what an attack in public would cause.
Jake put the car in park, and simply sat there for a few minutes. His eyes coincidently locked on the unmoving speedometer as if it were doing something ever so interesting. He hadn’t expected to feel so worried or nervous about it, but he was actually wondering what it was going to be like. It was a new place, that meant a whole lot of new people, and anyone of them could have been what it would take to trigger it. It felt like a pretty big gamble when it was all thought out at one moment, the way Jake lived, but nothing would ever shake his lifestyle, that was very obvious from past experiences. Just keep control, think clearly about everything, occupy when all else fails. Jake kept telling himself things like this over and over as he sat with his gaze fixed on the car’s instruments, the vampire beginning to second guess his decision to do it that day and then. But he figured it was better then, than waiting until the school started, since he would be attending under the guise of an ever illusive teenager. That place would mean hours of being around them, the ones he feared for that moment, and there would hardly be any escaping it then. Right then was his best bet, at least if something started to happen he could leave freely, yeah it was then or wait for a much worse scenario to take place.
Relentlessly Jake summoned all the mental strength he could muster, forcing his gaze off the speedometer and out the windows of the car, their dark yellow surfaces beginning to jump as he instantly spotted all the humans walking near his vehicle, making their way around the small town. His eyes would have been a little lighter, but his diet hadn’t fully been converted just yet, and there was just a small trace of the meal he preferred still lingering in his system. This made for the best testing point, Jake figured, as he would suffer the greatest thirst during this time, when his body was changing over to the new type. God how he hated veggie food... Jake drew in a deep breath just so he could sigh. He began to prepare for exiting the car, but the progress was much slower than usual. He could see them out there, lurking around and completely ignorant to what their presence did to someone like him. Why in the hell was he doing this again? Reluctantly Jake moved his hand out and took a firm grip on the door handle, before he gave it a snug pull, the door popping as it jumped ajar. This was it, no point in turning back now. In a sudden burst of speed Jake pushed the car door open, moving his body out of the vehicle as the cool air rushed at him as if it meant to throw him back in. Deftly he gave the car door a shove, slamming it shut before he gazed around aimlessly, cautiously breathing in heavily several times as he tested the air. The scents bombarded his nose, feeling something like being caught in the ring with a heavy weight champion, Jake had to stand still for a moment to recover.
Eventually though Jake was moving along the sidewalk, eyes often finding places to look that involved him seeing absolutely nobody around him, and their gazes at the people were very short and timid in nature. It worked considering he was new to the area, people probably thinking he was just a little shy, and not worrying about his otherwise strange behavior. Though as Jake began to notice the people around him, he realized he had dressed a little out of the place, it seemed people were a little more simpler there. His deep brown trousers and sharp black dress shoes, paired with a light blue dress shirt and a sleek knee low black coat, were not exactly at the same level as everyone else. That was something he could work on, Jake thought, as he continued along the sidewalk, noticeably avoiding getting too close to anyone passing him.
